The Uganda Orthodox Church in liaison with Uganda Orthodox Church Mothers’ Union (UOCMU) the Women department within the Church is hosting the World Women’s Day of Prayer in Uganda which is scheduled on the 6. March 2020. This event which is expected to attract over 3500 participants is supported by the member churches of the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC), The Catholic Church, Anglican Church and the Orthodox Church.
Over the years, the Women from the member churches of Uganda Joint Christian Council come together to evoke God’s mercy through prayer. The world women’s day of prayer is organised and held on rotational basis among the member churches and the theme is designed by the organizing country. This year the organizing country for the international event is Zimbabwe. The theme is “Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk John 5:2-9 and this is the theme to be used for our celebration here in Uganda.
Prayer is petitioning God for grace, wisdom, courage and strength in addressing complex matters that affect Women anywhere in the world. Three Churches and leaders come together under their umbrella organization the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) to address issues of a common concern and their sphere of influence. They contribute to the 97% of the faith population in the country. The Uganda Joint Christian Council seeks to champion women’s participation and involvement in issues related to combating Gender Based Violence and Violence Against Women in Uganda among other issues of common concern.
Therefore, their participation and that of the religious leaders in the National Women’s prayer day is a strategy that will not only draw God’s intervention on matters that are affecting the dignity of women in Uganda but also on Uganda as a country in search of peace, harmony, compassion, respect for one another, unity and tolerance as key drivers to sustainable human development.
